Google acquires Nik Software

This just in from TechCrunch: Google acquired Nik Software.
Nik Software is the company behind the Nikon Capture NX2 software and other popular photo editing products.
FYI: back in 2006, Nikon made a “capital investment” in Nik Software.
Now, since Google will be in charge, I feel much better about the future Capture NX3 version.

Nikon Capture NX 2.3.4 released with J2, P7700 support

Today Nikon announced v2.3.4 of their photo editing software Capture NX2 ($135). The modifications in this version are:

• Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 J2 (now shipping) and Coolpix P7700 has been added.
• When RAW images captured with a camera’s Auto distortion control function enabled were opened or edited, Capture NX 2 sometimes quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved

Nikon ViewNX 2.5.1, Camera Control Pro 2.11.1 released

Today Nikon released ViewNX 2.5.1 for Windows and Camera Control Pro 2.11.1 for Macintosh. List of modifications:

• Nikon ViewNX 2.5.1 changes: an issue that caused horizontal lines to appear in images printed at paper sizes of A3+ (329 x 483 mm) or larger without margins has been resolved.
• Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.11.1 changes: an issue that prevented Camera Control Pro 2 recognising the D4 on Macintosh computers equipped with a PowerPC processor has been resolved.

Nikon ViewNX version 2.3.1

This time Nikonreview will share information about Nikon ViewNX version 2.3.1 . Today Nikon released View NX version 2.3.1. The only addition is support for the waterproof and shockproof Coolpix S30 camera that should start shipping at the end of this month.

Nikon Firmware Rmulator Now Available

After the Nikon D5100 firmware was decrypted and we got the first unofficial "Star Wars" firmware update, there is now a full hardware emulator including screen visualizer for the Nikon D3100/D5100/D7000/D* cameras that uses the Fujitsu FR MIPS processor. This will enable anyone willing to write custom firmware routines and then test them without risking their hardware being turned to bricks.
